LEARNING AND TEACHING
Mathematics
At St Charles Mathematics is aligned with the three inter-related dimensions of the Victorian Curriculum; number and algebra, measurement and geometry and statistics and probability. In the classroom, there is an opportunity to learn with concrete materials, participate in projects with real-world meaning and integrate learning into different curriculum areas. At St Charles, our focus is on developing deeper mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, modelling and problem-solving. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematics to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently.
Features of our Mathematics program consist of:
Daily one-hour Numeracy block
Explicit small focus group teaching
Mathematics intervention
Assessment and reporting mathematics development
